Ali attended the Natural Gourmet Cookery School in Manhattan in 1995. In 1996, she moved to the Mission District of San Francisco to begin her cooking career. An activist at heart, she chose to use her culinary skills to serve Bay Area organizers and at-risk youth. As a food justice advocate, committed to local and sustainable food systems, Ali also held a particular interest in convening people. Presented with the opportunity to cook at Hillside Gardens in 2003, she moved to Marin County. Inspired by the abundance of the garden and the surrounding farms, she found the perfect place to fuse her penchant for cooking with her desire to gather people in order to exchange resources, cross pollinate ideas and build alliances. Savory Thymes was established in 2005 and has supported over a hundred nonprofit organizations and artists.
Ali graduated from Mills College with a degree in Psychology. She is passionate about life, beauty and celebration. Ali lives in Mill Valley, California.
